Bukittinggi has successfully as the host of the event Minang Geopark 2023 Marathon. With more than 1500 participants contributing to the event with categories, including 5k run, 10k run, and 21k run.

On Sunday, 10 December 2023, The Governor of West Sumatera along with Regional Secretaries of Bukittinggi officially send the greeting to the participants in stages according to their categories, in front of Istana Bung Hatta.

Martias Wanto, as the Regional Secretary of Bukittinggi, express his proudness given the trust to run the Rumah Minang Geoprak Run 2023 event as the host of the event.

He belief that, this activity will give a positive contribution to attracts Bukittinggi as the tourism destination, also to support the development of tourism sport.

West Sumatera Governor, Mahyeldi, welcomed the implementation of the Minang Geopark Run 2023, along with Provincial Government Program to increase the visit of tourist in 2023 with theme of “Visit Beautiful West Sumatera”.

The Provincial Government's target in 2023 is to reach 8.2 million tourist visits to West Sumatra, including the city of Bukittinggi.

Y. V. Tri Saputra, as the Founder of Minang geopark Run 2023, explains that the marathon event has more than 1500 participants, with 92 percent participants are from the outside of Bukittinggi.

He appreciated of how the enthusiasm of the participants, which more than 50 communities of runner joined the event and run on the track of Minang Geopark Run 2023.

The successes of this event portrayed the awe of Bukittinggi, making Bukittinggi assuring it position as the tourist destination that could attract the visitors, also gives the positive contribution on the development of tourism sport in the region.
